My Story

I wish you a brilliant day and hope you are doing fine. In this opportunity, I want to share with you some news about my family and me. I am Floridalma Beatriz Hernandez Barrera and I am 17 years old. This year I am in 5th grade at school. I continue receiving face-to-face classes, and this year, I am learning a lot. My native language is Maya Quiche, but I would like to learn Spanish to improve my communication with other people. In the future, I would like to travel to Guatemala City and look for a job in order to help my family. My favorite celebration of the year is Christmas because we remember Jesus’ birth and enjoy eating “tamales” (a typical dish) with my family. I love to play soccer. What I prefer to drink is Coca-Cola. For my birthday, I celebrated with a delicious lunch and a cake. I want to let you know that all my family and I are in good health.  As a family, we are grateful to LW because we have been blessed in different ways with meals, medical and dental attention, and spiritual support. I also feel so happy when I receive Christmas gifts at year`s end.

My mother`s name is Maria Barrera Jimon and she is 50 years old. Nowadays, she continues doing chores at home and raises hens, turkeys, and pigs to sell to get some income. My father`s name is Mateo Hernandez Quino and he is 52 years old.  He earns a living by working as a farmer and day laborer in order to support the family. Thank God, my parents are making an effort to support us with school expenses, and it is very difficult for them because they are supporting three of my siblings and me, and they do not have a stable job. I want to let you know that I work in a tortillas business every Sunday to get some income to help my family. We grow corn and black beans for our family’s consumption. We are a humble and big family, so our current needs are corn and groceries. At the moment, we are still attending the Catholic Church on Monday. Thanks to the Living Water evangelism team who shared the gospel with us. I hope you enjoy reading my letter. Sending love. Every blessing to you!

Warm regards,

Floridalma Beatriz Hernandez Barrera
