My Story

Hello! My name is Marie Durbaku. I am happy to tell you about myself and my family while the team of Adopt a Child is asking me to fill the update formular. I am 12 years old and my birthday is on April. I am doing well and in good health. My favorite color is yellow and my future dream is to become a teacher. I completed the sixth grade during June. I enjoy going to school and learning and my favorite subject that I enjoy studying the best is Mathematics. At present the schools are closed for the summer break and I know that I will miss my class friends and our time altogether, playing and having fun after school. Even though I will still meet with several of my class friends who live near my house. I like to meet with my friends every morning. I enjoy playing games with ball and dealing with sports. My favorite game is basketball and this game we play only when we are at school. I try my best to help my parents especially during the summer because during this season I am freed from studying. I care for my younger sister during the time my mother goes to work in our land or deals with cleaning, cooking and finishes all she has to do in the house. I live in a village of the district of Pogradec. Our village is far from this town and we travel with minibuses to reach there whenever we need to be in this town. Every time we go there during the summer, I like to spend some time walking by the lake or spending time in the park. I have seven persons in my family who are my grandmother, parents, a brother and two sisters. My brother is older and both my sisters are younger. All of us frequent the sponsorship program of Adopt a Child and benefit help and care from the church. One of my sisters and my older brother go to school and my younger sister is still frequenting kindergarten. My family owns land in the village but we are not dealing quite a lot with farming. This is because my father works in construction and he is not able to do both. My mother is busy with housekeeping and cares also for our grandmother and younger sister. Still, my grandmother and mother have planted vegetables in our garden and we provide such products ourselves without having to buy them in the shops. My father works in construction in Northern Macedonia and he provides for us all. He is able to work there and return within the same day. At times, he stays working for weeks, but he is still close and has access to travel back and be in the house within the same day. My grandmother is retired and she delivers her pension to my parents who are covering her living expenses. She is big help for us while she is carrying for my younger sister and she is also working together with my mother in our garden and land. We have trees in our land and after picking up the fruits, my mother and grandmother dry or boil them to be used as fruit juice. Our house is a small village house, but yet, offers appropriated living conditions to us. We are not very poor since my father is working, but we live with very low income and our needs are very many. I frequent the program regularly. I enjoy learning about the Lord and receiving spiritual education as well as physical care. I receive constantly food packages that are provided for each child frequenting the program and the church of Adopt a Child. Thank you from my heart for your support and care. God bless you!
