My Story

It is a pleasure to send you many greetings hoping you are receiving the Lord’s blessings. I am so happy to be sharing with you a little about my family and me. I am Maria Yohana Glendi Morente Calachij and I am 10 years old, but I will turn 11 years old in July. I only have the last name of my mother because my father did not legally recognize me because he was in the United States when I was born. I hope my father can recognize me in the future. My mother`s name is Margarita Morente Calachij and she is 30 years old. She continues doing chores at home, and she weaves typical clothes. In addition, she raises hens, pigs, and sheep to sell and get some income. We grow corn and black beans for our family’s consumption. My father`s name is Isaias Gomez Morente and he is 30 years old. As you know, he earns a living by working in the United States as a plumber in order to cover our necessities, and he keeps in touch with us. At the moment, we are attending the Church of Christ once a week. We thank the Living Water evangelism team who encouraged us with their words.

Unfortunately, last year I did not pass the grade at school, so this year I am in 2nd. grade again. I hope to pass the grade this year, and now, I am learning a lot because I receive face-to-face classes from Monday to Friday. I am closer to the teacher, so I can solve my doubts about homework. My parents strive to support my sister and me at school.  Nowadays, school supplies are expensive, and sometimes, it is very hard for them to cover all our expenses. Later, I would like to work on a farm to help my family. I speak my native language Maya Quiche, but I am interested in learning Spanish to improve my communication with other people. I enjoy Easter time because I like to see the decorations in the streets of the village. I love drinking the strawberry juice that I receive in the Living Water Adopt-A-Child Feeding Program. On my birthday, I spend time playing and singing with my siblings. In my spare time, I also play with dolls. I want to let you know that all of my family is in good health. We are so grateful to LW because we have been blessed in different ways with meals, medical and dental attention, and spiritual support also, I also feel so happy when I receive the Christmas gift.  We are a humble family. So, our current needs are groceries and clothes. I hope you like my letter. Every blessing to you!

Lots of love,

Maria Yohana Glendi Morente Calachij
