My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! This is Roslin Karina Marroquin Rodriguez, and I am writing you to tell you a little about me. I was born on January 22, 2015, so I am now 8 years old. I am in good health, and I am in 2nd grade this year. I like playing with my toys in my free time. I love the color black, and my favorite animal is the cat. I really enjoy eating fried chicken.  As a family, we attend a methodist Church called Rock of Salvation. My mother’s name is Wendy Karina Rodriguez Tino, and she works as a maid; my maternal grandma takes care of me while my mother is away. I tell you that I was not legally recognized by my biological father because he was underage when I was born, so his father (my paternal grandfather) legally recognized me. My paternal grandpa’s name is Abelino Marroquin Ovalle. Unfortunately, my parents got separated five years ago, and my dad only sometimes helps us financially.

We live in a house that belongs to my maternal grandparents, and we share it with them and their children. The house has three rooms and a separate kitchen, and it is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have electricity service, but we get the water from an artisan well. We have hens, pigs, dogs and cats as domestic animals. I walk for 30 minutes to arrive at the feeding program. I tell you that my mom helped me to give this information to an Evangelism teacher, and I am happy to be part of this Ministry.  I thank you for reading my information, and I hope you find it interesting.

Kisses and hugs
