My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

It is a pleasure to greet you through this letter. My name is Claudia Veronica Riz Xan, and I was born on December 25, 2020. I am not attending school yet due to my young age. I enjoy playing dolls and toy dishes. My favorite color is orange and I love doves. I like to eat pizza. All of my family is well. I suffer from viscous eyes, but fortunately this does not cause me any pain. I live with my parents and siblings. My father is Pedro Riz Tzoy, and he earns a living as a farmer. My mother is Isabel Xan Morales, and she stays at home taking care of us. She also raises hens, turkeys, cows and pigs to sell and improve our income. I have three siblings and they are also part of the feeding program. My family and I attend a Christian church called assembly of God.

I live in my parents' house. There is one adobe room with a separate kitchen, tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have running water and electricity. My parents pay these services. I live 40 minutes from the Feeding Program. I love to attend the feeding program. My father helped me to give my information.

Sincerely yours

Claudia Veronica Riz Xan
