My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two-room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.

Hello! My full name is Keydy Esperanza Gonzalez Cabrera, and it is a tremendous blessing to share a little about my life with you. I was born on November 30, 2014. So, I am 9 years old. Fortunately, I am doing well. I attend school as a third grader and after classes, I enjoy playing with my dolls. My favorite domestic animal is chicken. I love eating spaghetti and my favorite color is sky-blue. By the grace of the Lord, I have a lovely family. We are members of a Christian Church. My father is Nestor Enrique Gonzalez Villagran. He traveled to the United States about one year and a half ago to find better job opportunities. He suffers from asthma, but he is stable. He works in whatever he can to support our family economically. Most of our needs are groceries. He phones us almost daily. He told us that working with trees makes him allergic, so I beg you to pray for him.

My mother is Dalila Esperanza Cabrera Vargas. She works hard at home by doing the housework and taking care of my siblings and me. I have one brother and two sisters. We live in a rented house and pay Q1000=$129.33 monthly. It is made of concrete blocks, a tin sheet roof, and concrete and granite floors. It has three rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. Besides the rent payment, we pay the bills for the services. As for pets, let me tell you that we have lovely dogs at home. The feeding program is a 30-minute walk from my home. Being part of this project is a great blessing not only for me, but for my family too. I say goodbye to you now, but I want to tell you that my mom and I gave all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team. Take care of yourself!

Special regards,

Keydy Esperanza Gonzalez Cabrera
