My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am Jacinto Enrrique Gutierrez Chingo. I feel happy to have the opportunity to tell you about my life. My mother helped me to give all the information since this is my first time. I will start by telling you about my family. Well, my father´s names is Julian Gutierrez Gutierrez. He works as a mason to support our family. My mother´s name is Irma Chingo Coj. She is a housewife, but also works 2 or 3 days a week as a maid to earn some extra money. Currently, their health is good. I know you just met me, but I would like to ask your prayers for my father because he has some alcoholic problems and sometimes the money he earns is not enough to cover the expenses at home. As a family, we attend the Catholic church. Food and clothes are our greatest necessities.

Talking about my house, sadly, we do not own a house. We live in our paternal grandmother´s house. My cousin also lives there. The house has three rooms and a separate kitchen. We use only one room. It is made of tin sheet roof, adobe walls and dirt floor. There is a well where we get water. Besides that, we have electricity and share the payment monthly. Our domestic animals are one dog and a pig. Now, talking about me, I was born on February 12, 2012. I am 12 years old. I am repeating 3rd grade at school this year. I like blue, and my favorite animal is the turtle. My health is good. I enjoy eating fried chicken. In my free time, I like playing soccer. I have three sisters. I attend the feeding program alone, and I usually walk for 45 minutes to arrive there. Alright, it is time to say goodbye to you. Thank you for being interested  in knowing about me. May God bless you greatly!

Kisses and hugs,

Jacinto Enrrique Gutierrez Chingo
