My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system.  Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

Hello! It is a nice pleasure to greet you. I am Wendy Mishel Chingo Cux. I am so happy to introduce myself for the first time. I am a four-year-old girl. For that reason, my mother provided this information to the LW team. I was born on March 3, 2020. I stay at home with my mother since I am still young to attend school. My hobby is playing with dolls. My favorite animal is the monkey. I love eating roasted chicken. I like purple. I do not have any brother just three sisters: Olga, Irma and Wendy. We all walk to the feeding program for about 20 minutes to arrive there. Thank God, my father, siblings and I are in good health. My mother has been suffering from nervous gastritis for 6 years. She only takes natural medicine.

My father´s name is Felix Chingo Garcia and my mother´s name is Martina Cux Ramos. My father has been living in The United States for about 8 months. He is working in a nursery and sends money for our support every month. My mother is a housewife and takes care of us very well. We live in our paternal grandmother´s house. We do not pay any rent. It is a two-room house with a separate kitchen. It is made of adobe and block walls, tin sheet roof and cement floor. We have running water and electricity. The electricity must be paid every month, so my mother does it. On the other hand, the water services are paid every year, and my mother shares the payment with the rest of the family. We normally pay Q50.00 = $ 6.67. Sadly, we are not members of any church currently, but I hope my parents can take the decision and start attending one soon. As a family, we have many necessities, but this time I would appreciate that you pray for our family because my parents wanted to have enough resources to start building our house. Well, this is a little about me. I thank you so much for your love and care. May God bless you and your family wherever you are. I look forward to writing you again.

Lots of love,

Wendy Mishel Chingo Cux
