My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system.  Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

What a blessing to greet you today! I would like to have the opportunity to meet you someday, meanwhile, let me tell you a little bit about me. My name is Elida Dominga Rodriguez Chingo. I live happily with my parents Rogelio Rodriguez Coj and Marcela Chingo Chingo. I have two brothers and two sisters. Gladis, Ashly and Jeferson are the ones registered in the feeding program. We walk for 40 minutes to attend the program. We are members of the Catholic Church. Fortunately, we are all in good health. My father sustains us by farming the land or working as a day laborer sometimes. My mother takes care of us and the house, but also improves the income by raising pigs and chickens for selling.

I am a ten-year old girl. I was born on July 5, 2014. I am repeating 2nd grade at school this year. I love eating almost everything. I like dogs and my favorite color is maroon. In my free time, I like playing with my dolls. We live in my maternal grandparents´ house and do not pay any rent. The house has three rooms, including a separate kitchen. There is running water and electricity that should be paid once a year. The house is made of tile roof, adobe walls and cement floor. Our greatest necessities as a family are corn and groceries. For that reason, I would like to ask for your prayers so that the Lord provides for our needs. Thank you for taking your time to read this information. My mother gave everything to the LW team to share with you. I feel grateful to have your interest. I send you my love and prayers.

Best wishes,

Elida Dominga Rodriguez Chingo
