Jocotenango

Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepequez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.
Hello, I hope you are well. I am Sugeidy Guadalupe Lopez Hidalgo. I am so happy to greet you today and share a little bit of my information with you. I am so grateful for this opportunity to be a part of the feeding program of Living Water. I am 13 years old now, and I live in a place called Jocotenango in Guatemala. I was born on April 26, 2012, and I am in 7th grade now. I go to church at Liberty Church of Jocotenango. I have two brothers and two sisters. We live with my mom in my uncle’s house. It is a humble little home. We have two rooms and a little kitchen. The walls are made of cinderblock, the roof is metal, and we have a ceramic floor. My mom works hard to be able to provide for my family and cover all our expenses, since my father abandoned our family many years ago. My mom’s name is Sugeidy Alejandra Hidalgo Ochoa De Lopez. She works as an in-home assistant in a town next to ours called Pastores.
My father’s name is José Arnulfo López Alvarado. We don’t know much about him since he left, and he does not support us financially. We thank God though because He has blessed us with good health and so much more. Our greatest need at the moment would be a new roof for our house, because it is getting very worn from the rains and weather. Also, school is a big expense for us that we pray for God’s provision to continue to be able to cover that. We live about 15 minutes away from the feeding program walking, which is usually how I get there each week. I want to tell you a little more about myself now. I am in seventh grade now. Some things that I love to do are drawing, writing, and playing soccer. I also love the color pink. My favorite animal is a cat. I have my own pet cat, and I love him so much. I also love going to the feeding program each week. They always serve us a delicious meal for lunch. My favorite meal to eat is rice with chicken. I have enjoyed being able to tell you a little bit about myself, but I must go now. I hope you have enjoyed reading this letter. May God fill your day with joy and many blessings. I send much love and big hugs.
With love,
Sugeidy Guadalupe Lopez Hidalgo.
