My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world.  Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen.  The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks.  In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare.  Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, I am so glad to be able to share my information, and I hope you find it interesting! My name is Miguel Dario Riquiac Tiniguar. I was born on April 6, 2021, and I am a 4-year-old boy. I am not attending school because of my young age. So, I stay at home and enjoy playing football and tag. I love the color blue, and I like dogs. We have two hens at home. The meal I love the most is fried chicken. I live with my mom and one brother. Thanks to God, we are in good health. My father traveled to the United States a couple of years ago. We do not know what kind of work he does, but he sends us financial support every month. His name is Miguel Riquiac Suar. My mother does the household work and makes embroidery cross stitch blouses to sell and get income. Her name is Elizabeth Tiniguar Guarcas. I want to open my heart and share that my parents are no longer a couple. Unfortunately, they had marital problems and decided to end their relationship. This happened about 7 months ago; fortunately, my father keeps in touch with my brother and me.

We are members of the Ebenezer Methodist Church. The house in which we live belongs to my maternal grandparents and they allow us to live with them. There are two rooms with a kitchen. It is a humble house made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. There is running water and electricity; my mother helps my grandparents to pay for those services. Our biggest needs are groceries and clothes. It is a great blessing for me to be enrolled on the feeding program. I attend alongside my brother, and our mother accompanies us. We arrive in twenty minutes by tuk-tuk. I am so excited to share my information and to know someone would be able to read about me. May God bless you wherever you go!

Kisses and hugs,

Miguel Dario Riquiac Tiniguar
