Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.
Hello! I am so excited to share with you a little bit about my life. Before starting, I really appreciate you are taking the time to read my information. My full name is Esvin Sabino Rodriguez Gonzalez, and I was born on January 4, 2018. I am 8 years old and the color red is my favorite. I am a healthy second-grade student. My favorite hobby is playing hide-and-seek. I love rabbits and enjoy having noodle soup on my meals. I live with my mother and siblings. I have one brother and two sisters.
My mother’s name is Enma Gonzalez Luis. She works as a domestic employee and does her best to support our family. There is nobody else who can take care of us while she works, so after school, we go to her work and wait for her until she finishes her duties. Unfortunately, my father passed away due to kidney problems about two years ago. His name was Carlos Rodriguez Ruiz. We are a humble and needy family. So, I kindly ask you to pray for us. Some of our greatest needs are groceries, clothes, and medicine for my mother. She suffers from gastritis.
Fortunately, we live in our own house. It is made of concrete block walls and roof, and the floor is made of ceramic. It has four rooms, but no separated kitchen. Fortunately, we have electricity and running water services. There is enough space at home for a few domestic animals, so we raise chickens. I am really excited and grateful to be part of the feeding program in Zacualpa village. To get there, my siblings and I usually walk for 20 minutes from our house. Well, it is time to say goodbye, but I hope to hear from you soon.
Huge hugs,
Esvin Sabino Rodriguez Gonzalez
