My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello, I am very excited to tell you news about my family and me. This is Andy Ivan Chitic Tzoy. I was born on May 12, 2021, so I am four years old now. I am a pre-kindergarten student. In my spare time, I enjoy playing toy cars and my favorite color is red. I like dogs and love to eat fried chicken. Currently, I live only with my mother and my siblings because recently my father abandoned us. My mother is Julia Tzoy Morente, and she supports our family by selling hens and their eggs. My father is Juan Chitic De la Cruz but he abandoned us about one month ago and nobody knows about him. We attend a Christian Church called “Asamblea de Dios Emmanuel”. We are in good health.

My grandmother shares her home with us. There are two rooms and a separate kitchen made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have electricity but not running water. Our great-grandmother gives us water because she is our neighbor. My mother helps her to pay for it. Our greatest needs right now are groceries, clothing and shoes. From my home to the feeding program, there is a long road but I enjoy attending. It takes me about 45 minutes to get there. I say goodbye for now, but remember that I will be praying for God to bless you and your family!

Taking care of yourself,

Andy Ivan Chitic Tzoy
