Pasojoc I
Guatemala
Child
Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello! How are you doing? My full name is Victor Vicente Jimon de la Cruz, and I am excited because I know that you are reading my information. I hope you find it engaging. I was born on June 2, 2019. I am 6 years old and I love soccer. My favorite animals are cats. I like the color red and fried chicken is my favorite meal. I want you to know that it is a great blessing for me to enjoy delicious food from the feeding program at school. To get there, I usually walk for 30 minutes from where I live. I tell you that my whole family and I are healthy, thank God. I have two brothers and three sisters. We attend the King of the Century Church alongside our parents.
My father’s name is Jose Maria Jimon Calachij. He is a farmer and makes a living by working on a coffee farm at the coast for a couple of months. He usually travels there twice a year to provide us with the essentials. Some of our greatest needs are groceries and school supplies. My mother’s name is Ana de la Cruz Mendez. She is a busy housewife, who dedicates part of her time to raising domestic animals for our consumption. We have a few chickens and two goats. We live in our own one-room house with a kitchen. It is made of adobe walls with metal tin sheet roof and dirt floor. Please pray for us. We do not have electricity at home or running water either. Fortunately, we can get water from a nearby river and we use candles at night. Until next time!
Best wishes
