My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world.  It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa.  Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops.  The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common.  Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! I am Wilson Adan Garcia Perez, and I feel blessed that you are interested in knowing more about my family and me. Let me tell you that I live in a humble house that belongs to my father. My paternal grandmother also lives with us. The house has two rooms plus a kitchen. It is made of tin sheet roof and walls and cemented floor. My father pays monthly for the electricity service. We do not have running water at home, so we use a hose to get some water from a nearby river. Our domestic animals are chickens and a dog.

I was born in Chimaltenango on January 29, 2017. I am 9 years old, and I am in the 3^rd grade at school. I am healthy and enjoy playing soccer. My favorite animal is the lion. I like blue. I love eating pizza. I have 4 brothers and no sisters. Two of my brothers are enrolled in the feeding program. My youngest brother takes us to the program because we usually walk for 35 minutes to get there.

My father is Cristobal Garcia de la Cruz who works in an auto repair shop. My mother is Rosa Marina Perez and she is a housewife. Fortunately, they are both well. We attend the Methodist church.
