My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, thank you so much for stopping and taking the time to read my information today. I am Abraham Isaac Toj Barrera. I was born on December 14, 2021, and I am now 4 years old. I live with my parents, one brother and one sister. I am so grateful to God for blessing my family and me with good health. Abaham Toj Luis is my father. He works both as a farmer and day laborer. Rosa Floricelda Barrara Riz is my mother. She is a housewife and raises hens to sell to get an income. I am not attending school yet because of my young age. My hobby is playing football. My favorite color is red, and my favorite animal is the giraffe. I love to eat fried chicken.

We are members of the Prince of Peace. We live on our property, and my grandpa lives with us. It is an adobe house; there are two rooms with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. There is a kitchen too. We have running water and electricity services; my father pays for them. The water payment is once a year and the electricity every month. We are a humble family, and our greatest needs are groceries and clothes. I am so blessed to be enrolled in the feeding program, and I walk 30 minutes to get there.
