My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, I am very happy to greet you in the name of Jesus. I will introduce myself, and I hope you enjoy reading my information! My name is Kimberly Dayana Aguilar. I was born on June 19, 2019, and I am 7 years old. Let me tell you I have only my mother´s last name, this is because my father tried to travel to the United States and was not able to recognize me at that time. He could not pass into that country, so he returned and stayed with us at home. My father is Jose Cuin Gonzalez, and Maria Aguilar Tol de Cuin was my mother. I have one brother and one sister. My father works as a day laborer and works all week. Sadly, my mother passed away six years ago due to an illness. Thank God, my older sister Olivia Cuin Aguilar cares for me and helps my father with the expenses. She embroiders blouses to sell, does the chores at home and raises hens, turkeys and pigs.

We are a Christian family and attend Ebenezer Methodist Church. I am very grateful to God because my family and I are in good health. I am in kindergarten this year. I enjoy playing with my dolls after I do my homework. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite animal is the cat. I love to eat eggs with tomatoes; it is yummy for me. My family and I are living in my maternal grandmother´s house, and we share the house with my grandparents. The house has three adobe rooms with a tile roof and a cement floor. We have running water and electricity, and my father pays for those services. We are a humble family; our greatest needs are groceries, corn, beans and clothes. I am very happy to be enrolled in the feeding program; I arrive there in 15 minutes by car. Thank you so much for your beautiful heart for the people in Guatemala like me.
