My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! I am so excited to introduce myself and share a little bit about my family through Living Water! My name is Lea Dominga Adaya Castro Aguilar. I was born on April 22, 2022, in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am a 4-year-old girl. Because of my young age, I am not attending school yet. I like playing with my dolls. My favorite color is pink, and the animal I like the most is the cat. I love eating fried chicken. I have one brother and one sister. I am very happy to say that my family and I are in good health. My father´s name is Ismael Castro Xon. He works as a day laborer and provides for our home expenses. My mother´s name is Ana Maria Aguilar Panjoj. She is a housewife and raises hens and pigs. She also embroiders blouses.

We are a Christian family and are attending a Methodist Church. We own the house in which we live. There are three adobe rooms with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. There is a kitchen. We have running water and electricity services; those services are paid for every month. Our greatest needs are groceries, clothes and shoes. I am very happy to be enrolled in the Chixocol feeding program; I get there in 15 minutes by car. My mom accompanies me to the program. I have to say goodbye for now.
