My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I am so excited to share my information through Living Water; thank you for stopping and reading about me! This is Ramsi Gissel Gonzalez Ruiz. My birth date is September 18, 2021. I am 5 years old now. I live only with my mom. Since I am very young, I am not attending school yet. For now, I enjoy playing tag and running with my friends. My favorite color is pink, and my favorite animal is the rabbit. Something I love to eat is eggs with fried beans. Tomasa Isabel Ruiz Calachij is my mother. She is a housewife and raises chickens to sell in the market. She struggles to provide for our home expenses. She is also going to do cleaning at a dental clinic. Hector Manuel Gonzalez Gomez is my father´s name. He abandoned us some time ago and has another family. Since then, my mother has been the only one who struggles for me. My mother is in good health, and so am I.

We are attending a Christian Church. My mother and I live in my grandparents’ house, and fortunately, we do not pay rent. There are three rooms made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a ceramic floor. There is a kitchen. We have running water and electricity services; my grandparents pay for the services. We are a very humble family, and our greatest needs are school supplies and clothes. For me, it is a great blessing to be enrolled in the feeding program, and I arrive there in 30 minutes by car.
