My Story

Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiché Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.

Hello! My name is Sandy Abigail Esquit Monterroso, and I am writing this small letter to tell you about me. I was born on February 26, 2015, so I am 8 years old. I am in good health, and I am attending 2^nd grade this year. I enjoy playing with dolls in my free time. I like the color pink, and my favorite animal is the dog. I love eating a typical dish called “pepian” (it is prepared with meat, tomato and toasted spices). I have one brother and one sister. My father is Estuardo Emanuel Esquit Garcia, and he works as a mason to support the family. My mother is Heidy Carolina Monterroso Monroy, and she works as a street sweeper in a nearby town. At the moment, my family and I are not attending church.

We live in a rented house, and we pay Q700.00 quetzals (about $94) per month. The house has three rooms and a separate kitchen, and it is all made of tin sheets with a dirt floor. Thankfully, we have running water and electricity services. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries. I walk for 30 minutes to arrive at the feeding program and enjoy a delicious lunch. I tell you that my mom helped me to give this information to LW Evangelism team, and I am happy to be part of this Ministry. I hope you find my information interesting.
