My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am Deisy Yulisa us Pascual. I hope you are doing great in your country. This this the first time I am sharing about my family and me. I am young so my mother helped me to give you this information. I was born on June 9, 2020. I am a healthy four-year-old girl. I have not gone to school yet. I enjoy playing with dolls and toy dishes at home. I like red, and my favorite animal is the cat. I love eating rice. I am an only child. My mom takes me to the feeding program which is a 5-minute walk from my home. We attend the Assembly of God church.

My father is Pablo Us Ramos, and he earns a living as a farmer. My mother´s name is Lidia Elizabeth pascual Morales, and she is a housewife. I live happily with them. Thanks to God, they are healthy. My mom also improves the income by making tortillas. My parents own a corn mill as a business. About our home, my parents rented a house. They pay Q1000 = $ 133.33 a month. The house has just one room, so my mom must cook inside since there is no separate kitchen. The house is made of block, cemented roof and granite floor. We have running water and electricity. My parents pay for the electricity monthly and the water annually. Our only domestic animal is a cat. As a family our greatest needs are corn and groceries. Alright, this is a little of my history. I hope you find it interesting. Thank you for loving me. I pray God pours out lots of blessings upon your family and you. Take care! Until next time!

Best wishes,

Deisy Yulisa Us Pascual
